The basic construction of the addition was finished sometime around the end of November. What was left was for me to paint the exterior and interior, and also have a company put new carpet in the bedrooms and hardwood floors in the living room and the new addition.
And here we are on the first business day after Christmas ready for all the new flooring to get installed. We'd waited for over a month for the wood to get shipped in. --------------------------- Dan Richards The Listening Sessions --------------------------- Pro Audio Consulting (866) 409-3686 |

So here's dumbass me painting the exterior. I learned a few things during this process. Never ever go to Lowe's or Home Depot to try and have paint matched. I spent the week I was to have knocked this out going back and forth to Lowe's four times trying to get them to match it. At first we thought it was a stain. Turned out it was paint. They also said you can't expect to match new paint with the old paint on the house - which turned out to be BS. I kept applying coats and it never matched the rest of the house. The dipshit at Lowe's said it was the hardest color he'd ever tried to match. He should have just told me he was a moron, and saved us all some time.
I finally talked to the contractor about the matching problems I was having. When I told him I'd been going to Lowe's, he laughed. He told me to go somewhere where pro painters go, like Duron. I went to Duron and they matched the paint perfectly. I told the guy at Duron about how hard of a time the guy at Lowe's had had with matching. He laughed. Anyway, I had finally had the right paint in the right color. The earlier mismatched paint went on as the primer. So, on a nice day in, March, I think, I was finally able to muster the effort to knock out the exterior paint job. --------------------------- Dan Richards The Listening Sessions --------------------------- Pro Audio Consulting (866) 409-3686 |

Literally Christmas eve I was painting the new room. That night I was applying multiple coats of paint on to some crown molding I would later install. Jump forward a few weeks, I'd finished painting the interior, the hardwood floors had been installed, I put up the blinds, and I'd bought a rug and some furniture. This picture was taken at the end of the January 2007 TLS Intensive Recording Workshop. I'd invited the guys over to see the room, and listen to some recordings we'd made earlier that week in our other studio.
I'd just moved into the room and set up quickly - because I needed a place to work. The paint was probably still wet at this point. By this time I'd been working on this room since September. Still had a few things to do inside, as well as paint the final coat on the exterior, and do some landscaping around the addition. But I was in no hurry. I was thrilled to have gotten this far. --------------------------- Dan Richards The Listening Sessions --------------------------- Pro Audio Consulting (866) 409-3686 |

Now, to back up a bit. This is not my room. But it's a picture I saw while looking around for ideas. When I saw it I got an aha. This was what I wanted the room to look like. The french doors we had custom made were done from this picture.
![]() I'll post some more shots soon. I need to take some pics now that the rooms been up and running and the exterior is finished. I just did the landscaping a couple of weeks ago. It's a long process. : ) --------------------------- Dan Richards The Listening Sessions --------------------------- Pro Audio Consulting (866) 409-3686 |

Dan, I had the funniest thought IMHO, while looking at the outdoor construction pictures.
I saw what looked like a construction site outhouse and immediately thought of an iso booth. Taking the urinal out and treating the walls with 703 and for a little reverb open the lid and put a mic down there as well. Anyway my wife says I have strange thoughts. I wonder how much a new shiter costs..hmmm [/QUOTE] Jim Easton Abbeyville Road |
