The reason why I ask is because I teach younger children like kindergarten through third grade, so I know more as far as working with that age group. I have worked with some older kids, and usually end up having to work with rap and dancing. Since the rap that they listen to has to much profanity in it, poetry helps to try to help them learn different stlyes and, maybe emulate the style using their own ideas. Once the kids get past like 3rd grade, they are more difficult to please as far as what kind of music we work with. At least this goes for working in Jamaica, Queens, NY. I find the kids to super talented though. I get to learn about different kinds of music and dances from them. That's really a good way to get them involved and attentive. You ask them to bring music from home, and then let them sing along with it or dance and share it with the class. They feel proud when given the opportunity to share music from their culture.

The latest fad is music from "High School Musical". They love that. At least the younger kids do.

It's so cool that they are getting a studio made. I would love to have something like that in my school.

They're a lot of websites that give you great ideas for music and music related activities you can do with children.

If they're older, music theory would be good to teach them too.

well, this wont be so much about teaching music and writing, as it will be teaching them how to use the studio...it's more about the gear and how to use it without blowing something up
