Would you guys please critique the mix and mastering more specifically during the flute and horn solos.

Mastering isn't as easy as I thought.. I used a TC Electronics 96k Finalizer.

Just on my studio cans, but I think it sounds great. I have to record a Flutest (floutest?lol) tomorrow who I wish had tone as good as this guy. The guy I'm recording is like 60/40 breath to tone ratio and it drives me nuts.

Nice work, Jim Waytogo

Thanks Bazz for your kind words-!!

If is any help I placed the mic above the flute and set the mic to omni. I don't know any flute player that doesn't spit and hiss. Also I EQ-ed the the highs and subtracted about -3db.

Good luck with the recording-!!

Flute had a little too much ear cutting midrange for my taste. Other than that it sounded great to me.

Hmm, I totally disagree, I liked the flute's tone & presentation ... what exactly is "ear cutting midrange"?

"So far, it's neither."

Wow!!! A song with dynamics Yay

I gotta tip my hat to anyone that can get a Flute to have balls and punch Waytogo

The Bass has a nice feel and great tone.

Everything else seemed to have a nice flow and balance.

I really enjoyed the entire song.

I used a u87 on flute which I normally don't. I think that the mic is a little mid forward which is probably why it is a good female mic. It may explain the punch sound of the flute. Guess that set up is a keeper.

I used a neumann49 near the f-hole and an akg 480 by the neck and ended up only mixing with the 480. It surprisingly captured the full range of the bass. I usually use the 87 on bass.

Thanks I am glad you enjoyed the tune-!!
