I just got these mics from MShilliarious over at homerec. They are omnis that he invented based on a tape Op design. $40 well spent.

those MSH1's do a great on your vox. I like em. gtr too. Its got the warm low mids, clear mids, and a nice bite in upper range, maybe the PHeonix?
Do I hear a delay?

I might have to get some too, and thanks for posting !!

Tonio, Good to see you man!! I think they would make great percussion mics. For $40 why not? That was my thinking. I used a slap back verb on my vox. The mics have a large bottom end, which I had to roll off on both sources 3-5db.

Justin,

PS that avatar is Peter Gabriel in the 70s. One of my heroes musically.

Thanks for the info Justin. Yeah, I was thinking they would be good on percussion too!

MS did a good job, these things mount right inside a XLR connector woo hoo. He sells right on his site too.

Just ordered one. I'm always on the search for a mic with a flat response that might sound good on my voice. For $20 I'll give this one a shot. How can you lose for that price?Smile

WOW! Very surprising that it works that well on vocals. The guitar sounds great too. I put a stereo delay on the guitar to get an idea of how it would sound miked in stereo and I really liked it a lot. That sound is definitely worth $40. Waytogo

I wonder how it would compare to the SM57 on guitar cabs? I got a Shinybox Ribbon mic for use on guitar cabs and it needs a good parter... The SM57 is a little to grainy when I've used it on guitar cabs, so I don't think I'd like it next to the ribbon. But that MS was pretty smooth sounding though, so maybe it would be a better option?... And it's dirt cheap too, gotta love that! Big Grin

Crikey! They seem to lack a little depth in the mids, but hey for 20 bucks...! I like the matched set with a spacer bar and windscreens for $65...hmmm

thanks for posting that Justin. And your singing is sounding as fine as ever.

That'd be great. Thanks! Smile

I wonder if these could replace the SM57 as the ultimate workhorse in the studio.... for 1/5 of the price too. Waytogo

I'd love to get a few and try them out on toms/snare (maybe even overheads?) as well.
