I recorded a band called The Bullets this past Saturday. Here is a rough mix of the basic tracks. Avenue X. Comments/criticism welcomed. Thanks.

Gentlemen, welcome to my underground lair. Yondan |
Overall sound is a little bit dead, but this is scratch stuff. I don't know what you're looking for, but if these are raw unprocessed tracks you should end up with something decent.
I love the bass sound! The snare sounds a little strange, not punchy enough and dull. Again, you probably have something to work with here. Nice! What kind of studio you got down there in Charleston? You show me yours and I'll show you mine... Warren PS: Totally not trying to be GAY! Some Tuneage I recorded for a friend (me on drums / piano). My Piano Stuff (fun screw around stuff)IUMA Page Today's stars are tomorrow's meteor fragments. |

I'm kind of into it myself. What are you using to record the bullets anyway?
I think the problem with the snare drum is that it is too loud. Good job and thanks for sharing with us. |

Yeah, just raw tracks-no eq or compression yet. The snare definitely needs taming he hit the crap out of it sometimes. The bass was a gk head through a 4x10 cab miked close with a 57 & about 18" back with a 4033. I panned these left & right about 50%. The drums were a low end Peavey kit with old worn out heads. This may have something to do with the 'dullness'. 603's as overheads, 57 on the snare, beta52 on kick. Guitar was an epi casino through a fender deville miked with a SP B3. I have no studio per se, we recorded this at the warehouse where I work. There's no reverb on these tracks, just a room mic (ecm8000) set up about 50 ft from the band. The thing that suprises me is how easy mic placement is in a huge room like this compared to trying to record our band in the drummer's FROG. I could have put the mics almost anywhere & come up with something decent. I'll post this same track again once we finish recording & I start mixing it.

It doesn't sound as reverby as you would think in a warehouse, was it a huge place?

About 30,000 sq ft. I made a wall & some gobo's out of stacks of corrugated cardboard. I'll post a picture next week.

Sorry Dot, I checked Allow Member Download instead of All User Download. It should work now. Can I attach a picture that has no URL?

coplinger, it actually sounds like you have a good-sounding room where the recordings were made. The guitars are coming through fine, but the snare sounds like it's muffled. You might try rolling off at around 100K and cutting around 500-600K a bit, and if needed maybe boosting in the high-mids around 1-2K and maybe 5-7K, just to bring the snare out.
Of course, if you haven't mixed yet, then maybe it doesn't matter. What you got definitely sounds like something to work with. Dan Richards Digital Pro Sound The Listening Sessions |

I need to start micing bass cabs. The snare is going to need some serious sculpting. I would like to hear this again after you mix it.
