This was quickly recorded with 1 AKG 414B XLS straight into input 1 of my DPS24. The bass is an acoustic/electric Fender BG29. This a totally dry mix. I've been digging the deeps sound. It seems to suit this kind of music, and it plays well with the 414. I can recognize the distinctive tone of my banjo and mandolin. I ran the final mix to an M-audio Microtrack via SPDIF, transfered it to my wife's laptop, then normalized it in Adobe Audition.

I've been a bit lazy as far as figuring out how to punch, cut, paste, etc., with the AKAI, but, I'm looking forward to learning all about it.

Wretch, I would love to play guitar in your band Smile

Sounds great, but why would you nomalize the mix??

If you doing it as leveler/limiter possibly this would work better.
George Yohng's W1 limiter

It's free and it's not to bad, for the price Smile

I have a feeling I'm doing something I know nothing about. I thought normalizing simply raised the volume up to a certain level. Educate me! I just wanted to be able to hear the rough mix without cranking the volume up too much...then forgetting about it and the next song blows your eardrums outSmile

Dutch, I would love to invite you to come play guitar any time you are in town.

Well normalizing just does an calculated average of the song info. So it can suck dynamics right out.

To get a good average for a CD is a Mastering Technique that I don't have the equipment nor the listening room, so I leave that stuff to those who know.

However, this is how I understand the functional difference.
Using a Brick wall limiter will stop a dynamic point in the material from clipping, and allow the dynamic event to happen, while slightly raising some of the softer parts to taste.

Misuse of limiting will bring every bit of material information to the dynamic ceiling, this will make it louder, but you loose any impact or dynamics, because every bit of informations already at the ceiling. Sounds like shit......

Try the W1 limiter and see what you think Smile
