this is a working demo, of a cover of the famous 'american werewolf in london'( Wink )-creedence clearwater revival tune, "bad moon rising".

this is what i call the "Karaoke" version.

LOL

Nice sound. I don't hear any empty space, everything sounds full. Guitars sound good. Not sure about the vocal sitting to the right, though. And the main guitar sitting forward left. Reverbs sound nice, too.

wow, i thought this thread had just rolled on by everybody.....

FractureComposer-
thanks for listening...

Hethaerto-
the main vox was centered at zero....
so, maybe my backup is off to the side a bit, and maybe a bit too hot, creating a false impression of being off-sided?!
hm......
i did want the guitar off to the side though..
i've been listening to a lot of classic mixes lately, and it seems to me, that they were'nt too afraid of off-center mixes, and isolating certain tracks off by themselves....
i thought i'd experiment with it a bit...
thanks for the comments!

I think the song drags and sounds too slow.

I do like the sound of your voice, but the delivery is stiff. Guitar sounds are uninteresting - too much high-mid wash and no body. The sound of the guitar on the solo is too modern for that more classic style of solo.

The timing also sounds really anal and too perfect for music like this. It doesn't swing. Doesn't rock.

Sorry, gotta go with Dot on this one...too slow, and the feel feels like "anti-swing".

It's saying a bad moon's on the rise, but the vocal delivery and feel of the playing (mainly dictated by the drummmer's feel) sound more like the happy "two scoops of raisins" Kellogg's cartoon sun is what's about to rise.

gosh, dot, how do you really feel about it?!
LOL

kinda harsh, dude..

well, that's ok.

i imagine, if i had recorded it with the pod, it'd be much better sounding!
Big Grin

the solo is too modern....
i guess.

whatever that means - i just did an off the cuff solo, not trying to sound anything like the original, so it IS modern, by default, but i understand what your saying...

as far as the vocal delivery, all i can say is that i was as loose as a goose... Wink

i did two versions of this, before i canned the whole idea of a straight cover....
the final version i've got, is completely different...

i suppose i made the same assessments.....

so, if anything, this was a lesson in how to get from point A to point B.....
a very worthwhile lesson.
i don't want anything that doesn't rock or swing, on my new cd.

chrisrnps
too slow, i guess, is relevent to your mood......
on my final version of this, it's even slower.....
but completely different, and the tempo works..
on this one, the usage of the drum machine was strictly for time, with the intention of having real drum tracks laid down on top, with some fundamental changes...
this was not intended to be a final version, just a 2nd version... a demo, if you will.

in the original version, one of the things i liked about fogerty's delivery, was the way the melodies are all happy, but the message is dire.
i tried to keep in the feeling of the original, but all that got me was, as i said in the title thread, a 'karaoke' version...... LOL

i've always been better off, when it came to covers, with doing my own thing...
but i had to try it...
i thought just throwing down on a gritty rhythm track would do it, but it wasn't off center enough..

alright, here's the final demo version....

my first two attempts at this song, a cover of creedence clearwater
revival's "bad moon rising", were fun to do, but in the end, were so
close to the original, that it seemed like karaoke to me. which was not
the intended purpose.

Geek stuff:
though i'll re-track all guitars and vocals, here's the run down on the demo:
rhythm guitars are all Pod XT into ART DPS convertor;
Slide Guitars are all miced up mesa boogie thru demeter iso cab, sm57
thru A Designs Audio MP-1 into dbx compressor into ART DPS convertor;
Bass is thru sansamp bass di direct into dbx compressor into ART DPS convertor;
vox are all thru ADK Hamburg mic into A Designs Audio MP-1 into dbx compressor into
ART DPS convertor;
drum machine intoART DPS tube preamp section and then into convertor

download or stream "bad moon rising-New Version"

i'll only leave this up for 2 more days...
