new version.
i'm excited about this mix, because i've adopted some new mix ideas.... and the master, i've gone from using multiband compression, and limiting, to doing nothing to the final mix, but running it thru sony's 'wave hammer' for a single-band pass of compression, and limiting. it sounds more like the original mix to me, than running it thru the multiband. i think i like the sound of it, but i need some other opinions, from other playback systems, to figure out if i'm on the right path or not. 7-2-08 8:30pm update 256 mp3 download travel song-mas-mb2.mp3 (9270 KB) http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=batch_down...dHL0dCSU80b0RIRGc9PQ ______________________ Ralph: "My cat's breath smells like cat food." |

SUGGESTION:
use the DOWNLOAD button. it's a 256 kbps mp3, that sounds 10 times better than the hi fi streaming. i've about decided to give up on streaming audio. ______________________ Ralph: "My cat's breath smells like cat food." |

ok, new mix, fresh off the presses.
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=batch_down...dITkFtRStxRTNIRGc9PQ 256 kbps mp3 download the original mix/master version is still up, IF you want to compare. this one: bass level down, re-eq'd, more low roll off, guitars panned different w/level changes (up and down), vox levels up, compressor settings changed, vocal effects tweaked, Master eq and Multiband comp and limiter (vintage settings) used for mastering. ______________________ Ralph: "My cat's breath smells like cat food." |

It's way hot, bro.
I dl'd, started playing it and thought "man, that sure sounds slammed and is it distorting?" Loaded into the DAW, monitored it thru my Roger Nichols Inspector (free plugin) saw that indeed, it was very hot. Ran statistics on the track in the DAW and it shows: peak RMS @ -4.11 RMS and average @ -9.70.. yowza...@_@ Definitely different from what I've heard from you in the past.Playing sounded like it would be ok though. |

LOL i fixed it...... i think 7-2-08 8:30pm update 256 mp3 download travel song-mas-mb2.mp3 (9270 KB) http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=batch_down...dHL0dCSU80b0RIRGc9PQ same mix as the update, but with new mastering scheme... much gentler on the 'push'. please tell me if this one cleans it all up............ and here's a picture narrative of what i did: (i mix my tunes to a stereo pair, and keep this pair clean-- then i apply mastering settings and bounce this down to a new pair, keeping the raw mix always) Here is the original raw mix: you can see that the bulk of the wave form is around -12 to -6, with the meter pegged at -2.7 on the snare strikes..... Mastered file for the previous version: ok, now for the new one-- Mastering settings for this latest version: and the new mastered file: ______________________ Ralph: "My cat's breath smells like cat food." |

someone asked me for lyrics....
The Travel Song as we journey, into the great tomorrow we will see, all around us, all around us all the people who have come from so far away and they look weary, and they look weary, we will smile, and offer our friendship offer our sanity, offer serenity they turn to look for the tangible, look as they will, they cannot find the crucible of the devotion look here and there, come what may all they see, is apathy in the faces of everyone else then a man, with LIGHTS in his eyes, shows them the way, and then he explains, he understands. everywhere that i go, everywhere that i see, everywhere that i know, everywhere, that is me. journey, to everywhere. journey, to everywhere. you are here, you are there, you are there, you are there. Following light, Following light. I travel with you now, following light. giving me sight. stand, steady as a stone, directing me, calm as the sea. following light. ______________________ Ralph: "My cat's breath smells like cat food." |

Alright, here ya go amigo...
Not a fan of the vocal performance, but that is just me. Not a singer though, so I hear it. It fits the tune though so that works. Drums I like, but I hear a little more "room" versus punch, at least compared to the guitars and vocals. They seem tight and sit, the drums seem like they are in another room completey. Tom hits especially. Cymbals are a little crunchy, (could be the master) It is loud, but not crazy. Seems that the drums need a little more low, or maybe it is a lack of BASS completely that needs to fill that gap. Bump the bass up a few db and see what that does to fill the guitars lack of low. Rolloff the guitars around 250 to 330hz and allow the bass to fill in that part. Might help it drive the song more. The vocal performance gets better towards the middle right before the solo breakdown. Getting there man. Doc |
