Gentlemen, welcome to my underground lair. Yondan |
This song is a friend of mine playing everything but drums, me on drums. It is about as complete as a good idea/demo tape, but I always loved the feel to it.

Yes the drums sound great. The guitars have too much chorus on em for my liking. The mix seems a tad dark.

I purposely mixed it a little darker than usual.
Thanks for the compliments guys. War Some Tuneage I recorded for a friend (me on drums / piano). My Piano Stuff (fun screw around stuff)IUMA Page Today's stars are tomorrow's meteor fragments. |

that chorus on the guitar. is chorus commin' back? is it back? i thought chorus was comin' back after the rapture... is there chorus on the vocals too?
crap, the site is running pretty slowly for me. i only get 10 second bits before re-bufferin'. yea, i like that snare sound. the whole kit is pretty well polished sounding. good job. ok, i am comin' back later. too much rebufferin'. but heck i get another post. need more posts... need more posts... and you all are crazy about the dark thing. the first minute (all i listened too) is decently bright. how much treble do you want? . . . |

Chorus gave it that warbly wet sound that only chorus can give. I don't know if it's back or not, but I think it worked for this song. There's some chorus on vocals as well to even out the sound.
And it's really not that dark in my opinion, but certainly a little darker than some of my other mixes. Warren Some Tuneage I recorded for a friend (me on drums / piano). My Piano Stuff (fun screw around stuff)IUMA Page Today's stars are tomorrow's meteor fragments. |

Warren,
Very nice, it's reminiscent of something I can't place at the moment. What brand drums/mics are you using? I do the drum's on my tracks also and hope for a place someday where acoustics are tolerable. Stixxs www.stillwater-studios.com |

Very nice song. Everything is so well recorded....I could basically hear all the instruments and drums very clearly....I believe this is very well eq and mixed.......
IMHO I would prefer to have slightly more emphasis on the vocals and slightly less of the drums and bass... |

Warren,
I like this guy's voice. It is reminiscent of Geo. Harrison's voice (at least to me it is). I didn't mind the chorusing on the guitar, although it might have been a bit on the heavy side. The arrangement seemed a bit sparse to my ears. I kept listening for another timbre to show up to add another 'color' to the mix. Good song. Yeah, your drum tracks sounded great. Warren-
Good stuff...a touch of Queensryche, perhaps? I agree with Ken...it feels like there's something missing in the mix. Sparse was his word, but it fits. Quality was very good. Everything worked in the mix. What are you using to record the drums? If anything, I'd back the bass out a little and bring the guitar up some (at least early in the song) to serve as a counterpoint for the vocals. |

Wow this post is back from the dead!
OK, the drums are Arbiter maple 9mm's. The mics are: Kick: Nady DM80 Snare top: SM57 Snare bottom: Nady DM70 Rack Toms: Nady DM70's Floor Tom: Nady DM80 Hi Hat: Shure KSM32 Overheads: Marshall MXL1000 into my Behringer DDX3216 mixer and Fostex D160 recorder (since sold and now record PC based). Wow, thanks for all the compliments! Sparse is a good word, we were limited to 16 tracks and basically making a good demo of sorts. Gonzo X, here's the site for this guy's tunes: Changes In Green Guitar is Johnson combo (modeling type thingy) mic'd with ND468 and AT3035. Vocals are AT3035. Warren Stuff I mess with...
