Hi Scott. It looks serious. Is it possible for you to post a more detailed picture and maybe a clip of it in action? Thanks.

I do have images of the 992 at various venues but all on 35mm film (I'm old school w/pictures...) I'll get those scanned and posted soon. Thanks for that thought. I'll also be adding a slide show to the website of the 992 at different stages of assembly. -Scott |

As I compile the slide show I've posted a few basic high-res images in the interim. http://www.lachapellaudio.com/page4.html -Scott |

Scott, the high res pictures are cool. Hey, are those knobs aluminum?
|

Yes they are. I designed the shape and then sourced the work out to Kilo International. They're extruded and machined down from solid aluminum; very heavy. The heaviness helps provide a nice smooth rotation. The knobs were one of the most important part of the front panel for me as far as aesthetics go. Nothing turns me off more than grabbing what looks like a solid dial, switch or knob only to find out it's made of plastic! Thanks for checking out the pics! -Scott |

It's funny...
I was talking to a friend the other day, reminiscing about my old, wonderfulyl appointed studio. I'm now working out of the box in Cubase, and have far less gear. But I came to the conclusion that the thing I miss most is the tactile, sensual experience of using a board! The feel, the immediacy, the sheer ease of use. A reminder that a big part of being a gear slut is, well, copping a feel. |

How about some ear candy! Scott, do you have any clips?

Thanks all, I've enjoyed all the posts...I do have some professional interior shots but none that feature the fabrication work. Look for those on the assembly slide show in the future. In the mean time I'll try and work out a few good shots tomorrow of one on the bench I'm just getting finished with.
As far as audio clips, that's something I'll definitely try to have by AES and will post around that time. It's been performing decently at The Listening Sessions with Dan these past few months as well as many other venues from Nashville to L.A. In fact, Dan might be able to provide a little user info on the extended gain variant as well; he currently has both units. |

Absolutely! A click of the mouse is cool and powerful, does a whole lot but there's nothing like sitting at a real desk/console with REAL outboard gear. I know a lot of guys in the Bay Area that have only grown up on ProTools or other DAW's and have missed the very satifying experience of "ridding the faders" during the mix-down ... w/out plug-ins! But, in the end, it all has its place I guess. -Scott |

are lundahl output transformers an option for more " cleaner " sound?
|
|||
|
|
6th kyu |
Not at this time...that might be something to explore later. From what I see with Lundahl I would have to provide PC pin fitting for the correct transformer. The JT-11-BMCF uses four wire leads w/jack. I doubt I'll have the extra room on the PC board for both...However, the nickel plated JT-11 is known for being very clear. It's the optional upgrade that Avalon offers for their 737 ($180/ea), stock on the 992. But, I've also not spent very much time listening to Lundahl x-frms. |

Well, my digi cam doesn't seem to want to cooperate right now so I'm having to scan these in (prepare for low res...) This photo is me calibrating in the VU meters on Dan Richards' evaluation 992 extended gain unit. |

This one is a standard >50dB unit @95% completion. This was being built for Michael Cooper for a Mix evaluation/review. |
