Don't really like the look of the GUI. If it's any good though, $199 would be a cheaper alternative to some of the other mastering plugs.

I currently use 2.0. I wouldnt mix with it, but for mastering corrections I really like Ozone. The EQ allows you to be very precise in both frequency and Que.

3.0 will probably be my next software purchase.

Cheers,

Jose

I just downloaded the 3.0 demo, per a post by Cool_E... and some of the preset's seem to take alot of the guess work out of the process.

I found the presets in 2.0 to be pretty cheesy. They seemed way over-processed. Just my 2 cents

No offense, but I just cannot understand why Izotope would offer presets on a mastering plug-in. Every song will have slightly different sonic characteristics, so thresholds and A/R would not be set correctly. To me, it makes as much sense as those preset EQ curves in Media player. Sure, you can dial up smiley face EQ, slammed limiter setting, and high frequency excitation, but will it be the best treatment for a particular song? I don't think so. If their motive was to help the newbie out, it would have made more sense to provide a tutorial song along with the proper setings for that particular song.

For the record, I use version 2 for the past year and I think it's good for the money. I'm interested to see what improvements they have made in version 3.

I've been using it for a couple of weeks
and I like it. Still have more to learn.
The presets simply give you a starting
point. The you can adjust to taste from
there. To me it's more efficient than
starting from zero and adjusting every
parameter of every plug-in. There are
literally hundreds of them!

And there is a manual which is good. And the
presets do have descriptions which help to
lead you to a reasonable starting point for
a particular song.

Dave - I understand. Smile I guess we can agree to disagree. I like to be in control of every aspect of the control settings and I find I'm not using all of the modules at the same time either.

Were any of the songs that you have on your site mastered with Ozone?

Cheers!

I agree with you Cary. I also like to control
every aspect. I'll just click through the
presets until I find something that sounds
promising and then I'll start adjusting.

Nothing on my site has been mastered yet.
I promised to put up some pre/post samples
using a few Ozone presets just to give a flavor
of the differences that can be achieved.
I'll spend some time this evening putting
that together and post them tomorrow.

Ozone Sample Clips

Here is a link to some short clips that I
processed using the Ozone 3.0 Mastering
Plug-in.

There are two songs: "Creator" and "Hands"

From each song I took a short clip and provided:
- the unmastered raw mix
- 3 mastered versions using 3 different pre-sets

The clips are labeled. Everything is MP3
at 196K stereo.

Have fun!

I like the fact that some of the guess work is taken out of the process, kinda like Freefilter's wave matching process.

...the "4 band master with less mud" in 3.0 seems to be a pretty good starting point to adjust to taste.
