Not me, but Dot's got me curious. What are people's thoughts?

It's not high on my list, but soon I'd like a decent synth/workstation/music creation type of "writing pad" tool for creating interesting sound textures to plug into acoustic, folk, and rock tunes.

Reasons seems well worth checking out.

I use reason 3.0 heavily for the creation of beats and electronica. It's a fantastic program which is much deeper than people give it credit for. It is often called out on not 'sounding as good' as other electronica programs, but this is because it is built as a set of tools, not a quick finished result. The more you learn about the devices and combining them, the possibilities get pretty infinite. If there's one weak point in my opinion it's in the basses, but again, they need proper handling, they are not a one-and-done type of thing.

I've been using Reason since it's first release. I currently own the latest version 3.0.

Reason is a great tool for the myriad recording artists I've worked with over the past few years. Although it is geared for electronic based music, it's also very useful for rock, funk, and soul music -- even classical and jazz recordings.

On one hand, it is a tweakers dream. On the other hand, you can get a load a sampler with a Rhodes, Grand Piano, or Hammond patch within a few short clicks -- up and running in a minute.

As far as sound quality goes, it has it's weak points but ultimately it's all in how you process the signal. For instance, take a thin sounding drum loop from Dr. Rex and patch it through the Scream (distortion effects box) and you can get it sounding huge.

The latest version includes some mastering tools as well as the Combinator, which are both welcome additions to a program already feature packed with a ton of creative tools.

Bottom line is Reason is a great tool to have around the studio and an awesome program to have on your laptop computer for travelling, etc. Well worth the price!

reason is a great program. the ONLY thing, and that i mean, the ONLY thing its missing is VST and external plugin support. the factory sounds are great for starting out, and i use only reason 3.0 and recycle 2.1 to sample and make my music. www.lockdown-ent.com, 100% reason based

Ive had Reason 3.0 for about a year now and still use it, but mainly as a "scratch pad" The seqeuncers are fast and easy which makes it great for coming up with a quick bass line or drum pattern. Sonar 5 has a rex player so I can import anything I come up with and then swap out the sounds in Sonar.

I use Reason 3 sometimes...now I use VST synths in Samplitude a lot more because I like the interface more.

First of all, Reason has to be one of the easiest audio programs to upgrade. If you're using 2.5, you uninstall it, and install 3.0. That's it. All the RNS files stay put and they work properly after upgrading. Also, it's a steal for $300 considering all that it does.

I read an article a few months ago that the Reason guys wanted to create an all-in-one package, where you wouldn't have to buy other software for it to function properly and sound good. This is why there is no VST or DX support, at least for now. I completely agree with their idea, but would like to see a small recording interface in Reason, so I could record my own samples directly into reason. Right now, I have to record in Sampliturd and work on the files. It's not quite as fun.
