Ok, I'm kind of curious about this one also. Just wondering if the new products will be accepted by the audio community.

I've seen no reviews either. They are actually being sold By Sam Ash. A friend of mine called them and asked about the mics. The pro audio guy said "tele what?"

Yikes!

All Telefunken needs to do is send me a review unit and I'll give them a thorough, well-written, helpful, unbiased review.

Moon Wink

But it is interesting how some gear never really seems to make it above the radar...

Just found out that a dealer (Sonic Circus in Vermont))carries them. They are a "mere" 2 hours from here. Who knows...maybe I'll give them a call and visit.

We've been using an AK47 in a couple of studios on a lot of sessions, and it's been chosen over a lot of other mics by engineers and producers. Obviously, the musicians/vocalists are hearing it, too.

We were just sent another AK47 by Telefunken that has had the low-end tweaked a bit. We're not quite ready to make a call yet, but should have some more review info up soon.

Telefunken's got a winner on their hands with this one.

Interesting...

Is this as per your request, Dot? Or are these tweaks that will be reflected in off the shelf units?

As part of the eval process of the AK47 I sent one to Popmann. Here's are his initial comments from the topic, Low cost alternative to Telefunken?

quote:
I'm still playin' wit it...FYI. I can tell you right off that there's a distinct difference in this and the 2247. This mic is about the warm and fuzzies. It sounds downright old, IMO. While the 2247 sounded in many ways like a poor man's M149...this has got a different thing. It sounds old. It has the least high end of any modern condensor I've tested. But, you can add a high shelf and it takes it well...

Actually, it makes me want to hear their M16mk2...their site says this falls in between the the 47 and 49 in sound, while the M16 falls in between a U67 and C12. I've never used a real 47...I HAVE used a real 49 and a Korby47. I completely hear the old 49 in here...that chewy, yummy midrange with that warm "fuzz" that only seems to come with vintage mics.

And I don't mean it sounds like the old 49 so much as it's got that vibe.

Just dropped it in front of the bassman...gorgeous tone. I might have to work on nailing this next track's lead gtr while this one is still around.

Acoustic gtr...full bodied...kinda cuts the Taylor shimmer-which you may or may not prefer. Nothing squelchy or weird through the middle. I'm not sure I'd ever choose this for acoustic BUT--it's just my test that shows things that sometimes my voice doesn't. I should try some acoustic M/S recording with it, though--get the sparkle from the Sm81 acting as the middle.

On my voice? It's a little thick and dark. Which is actually the same thing I thought about the old M49. But, it takes EQ well. Not quite as well as the M49.

For perspective, the high end mics I've really liked on my voice? InnertubeU87, U87i, U67, M149, Manley Ref Black. This is noticably darker than those. I'm not sure that I'd say I prefer it to those. But, if we look at the things that have worked OK on my voice in it's price range? AT 4060. SD U95. 2247. MojaveMA200. It hangs in there well, and is certainly the richest/warmest there.

Otherwise, even if it's not the perfect match for my voice, it's a fab color--and one that I don't hear done in modern mics.

Thanks for the comments! It sounds very much like what I hear from my Soundelux E49 - at a far lower cost. Interesting...

If I could find a mic that sounded like the E49 does in omni mode, but with a tad more top, I might have a perfect fit for my voice.

Well - I was considering getting an AT4047. I had a Soundelux e49. Mixed feelings about that mic. If this is warm and smooth and has a little more high end than the e49, I would be very happy. Any more comments along this line?

MickGael - did you ever get to try one of these?

THANKS,
AB

Hi AB,
No - not yet. Sonic Circus is supposed to carry them (that is, if they are in fact out already). They are over and hour and a half drive from here and I've just not had the time (though I certainly plan to at some point)...

They are out there. I spoke with Tele USA and they are ready to ship to dealers, drop ship, etc.

There's a clip posted in the Recording Forum thread about the mic. FYI.
