That's right, folks. Someone had to do it. Waylon Ford of Karma Audio has knocked out the K-Micro 99¢ mic. And, yes, this is a condenser mic.

We've been using some prototypes for a few months. And just received the final go-to-market versions. Will have some session reports and soundclips soon.

That's what I'm talkin' bout! A piece of audio gear that you can buy with pocket change.

Lucio, they're cardioid.

According to the description of the K-Micro that went up on Karma Audio's website today, it seems that the first 1000 mics will be 99¢. After that they'll be $5.00 each.

So, maybe it's really not a 99¢ mic - but a $5.00 mic that has an introductory price of 99¢.

Thanks Dan, I'm looking forward to your impressions.

I'm wondering if they would make good tom mics.

I still don't see a way to buy the mics on there site yet.

At this price point, might as well buy a bucket load of 'em to experiment with! For a dollar a unit I would buy 20 of them right now knowing nothing about whether they are any good or even utilitarian.

That makes sense and I'd do it in a heartbeat, but their site doesn't give you any way to order them.

The worlds first truely disposable microphone.

I have an buddy who is an electronics wiz who made a stealth stereo mic built into his ironic trucker hat with what looks like the same sort of electret condencer element. They worked but sounded a bit like an aluminum can. I imagine these would sound the same.

I'm sure they would have some use. Get 24 of them and stick them all up at once then pick the one that sounds like you want it to sound.

I called Karma Audio this afternoon. They already blew out the first 1,000 mics and are out of stock until the next shipment arrives. They also said they would be setting up "shopping cart" commerce on their web site shortly.

I just got my half dozen...just checking to make sure they function and I've already noticed that they are very directional...the rejection from the back of the mic is pretty amazing...I had my nearfields tuned up loud enough that I could hear myself pretty clearly through them and was sitting about an arm's length away and had no feedback issues...I'm really excited to see what these can do around a drumkit...I should get a chance to check that capability out soon.

I'm utterly baffled at the general opinion regarding smoking. I don't smoke, but it's a bar, for God's sake. That's what your supposed to expect. It's a den of iniquity where people are going to indulge in all of the minor vices and sins denied to them during their mundane workdays. You can wreck your liver, ruin your hearing, get into a fight, and pick up an STD, but somehow smoking is unacceptable? Sheesh. We've turned into a nation of entitled whiners.

The K-Micro's are now selling for $20.00 Matched Pair FYI.

Already received 4 when they were Ubercheap. Gonna purchase 2 more sets before they go into the stratosphere of $40.00 a pair;-)

hey Dot...

How are these for OH's? I was thinking of using sE Reflexion Filters for really bad sounding room but most mic's like the SM81 and Earthworks are so looong that it would be tricky getting them "into" the filter.

Of course I guess I could just use my B3's as OH's....

Thanks for any reply's
