quote: Studio Projects C1... have always felt it was a poor acoustic [ especially stringed ] instrument mic
The Vienna is one of my favorite steel string acoustic guitar mics. The C1 is also one of my favorite vocal mics...AND I recently have begun using it on nylon string guitars. I lent one of my 3 to a friend who owns one of the best and oldest studios in New York City. When he told me he was using the C1 exclusively for nylon string guitars I thought he was joking. It took me almost three years to find out he was right. It all depends on the guitar, the player, and what type of song, but if you only had the Vienna and the C1 you'd be getting a great acoustic guitar sound every time. The ADK SC7 and the Studio Projects C4 are also brilliant small condenser mics that just kill on steel string acoustic guitars. Use a C4 and a Vienna for an awesome stereo steel string acoustic guitar sound.

Hey, Ted, what pre's do you find the C1 to work well on vocals? I found it sometimes a bit too sizzly and scooped on many of my pre's except for a Joe Meek VC1Q which really smoothed it out. Very nice on that one. What combo's are you having success with? Thanks!

I am a HUGE fan of A-Designs preamps. Their MP1 and Pacifica both sound great with the C1 (and the Vienna :-) You mentioned the VC1Q - I have one and it is still one of my favorite mic pres. It gives so much "attitide" and "sound" to any signal passing through it. The newer Joe Meek pre's are great, but none of them can touch the old Ted Fletcher/UK made VC1Q's.
