WTF is Dot doing?

I check out a lot of gear. Some of it gets turned into formal reviews - sometimes not. It often depends on my time. I thought I'd make a place to jot down notes, post reviews, and maybe put up a few sound files.

this is a way cool idea, dot.

i, for one, enjoy the reviews...

case in point:

i need a low budget condenser
(i have a 4033, and a sm57, so the mic "closet" isn't full yet) Big Grin

i can only muster $200.

and the C-1 is the one in the running...

any suggestions on others, to consider in this (somewhat extremely limited) price range?!

this would be for vocals mostly....

yeah Robemmet......and also from guys like me too!

I really like this idea, it's a more direct way to indulge in everything gear.

BTW Gonzo:
For $200, my votes go to:
SP C1 - most colored, some hashiness on top, most geared towards vocal and best vocal mic of the bunch.
Rode NT1000 - less colored, more bright, very clear, good all around.
AT4040 - least colored/most neutral, excellent utility mic, best of the bunch if sibilance is an issue.

Madguitrst has left the Forums.......but not before committing acts designed to offend the senses.

Hey Dot,

I guess I'll be spending time here in the "Clubhouse" as my recording career grows, and so does the hard learning curve.

Thanks for providing a place of respite for both seasoned engineers and newbe's-!!

Gonzo,
check out the oktava 219. . .I did some tracks for an LA based artist named Derek Halet and used one of these, completely stock on the scratch vocals. He later flew out to nashville, where we rented a very old, and very famous u-47, but found ourselves longing for that 219. I found it to be a very colored 'in your face' kind of vibe, very 'punchy' but without excess sibilance. I'm sure if you pester my with private messages long enough, i'll send you some sound clips. . .assuming i still have both files.
