Thanks Dan,

Your review led me to try and buy one of these babies. It's yummy. I got mine for $218, for that much money it's unbeatable.

"So far, it's neither."

What's really unbelievable is you can go along with this nice but inexpensive mic, and just when you think you can do better, swap out the tube for a good nos....and its a new great mic.

If only I knew 1/10th.

Shorty, that's exactly what I did, with a Mullard.
What did you try?

Mud, haven't you ever tasted a yummy mic before?

Okay, it sounds big, round, and phat....yes I said phat.....just like you'd expect from a tube mic. In general, it has the qualities that you'd be buying a tube mic for.

In comparison, I think my NTK is a better all around mic. It is useful for more applications and it never really sounds bad. It is clear and present, it is built like a tank, and it just exudes quality.

The V69ME is not built quite as heavily, the power supply is about 1/2 the size, etc., but I don't really need a mic to be a tank, I need it to be a mic. The NTK is classy, the V69ME is a bit gaudy. BUT, it has more tube flavor by far.

The NTK is just a good mic that happens to use tubes, but I never think of it like a good tube mic, per se. The V69ME is nothing but a tube mic, a pimpodelic one at that.

Again, it is big, round, phat, thick and gooey sounding. It's about all you could ask for in tube mic for the home studio, at least at annywhere near this price point.

That being said, mics continue to get better and better and cheaper and cheaper...

In this case, I went for a telefunken 12AT7. I don't know why. My other favorite is a Mullard 4024 (12at7 variant) or a Mullard 4004. Which Mullard did you use?

Tlfkn and Mullards are great tubes, certain RCAs and TungSols are pretty good, too, and on a budget, JJ Electronic does pretty well.

I've been wanting one of these mics...I just need an excuse!!

I have a whole bunch of Telefunken 12ax7s I pulled from an old piece of medical gear that had never been used, just stting around in a garage as a spare, which never was needed.. So, they are basically NOS.

From tubeheads, I read the TFs preferred as 12ax7 and Mullards for 12aT7. I don't know........

As for the Mullard I used it is a 4024.
