Thanks very much! FWIW, the amp you pair them with will have a big effect on their sound. I demoed them through the Grado amp and they sounded beautiful, very natural and clear. I use them through a Central Station and find the response to be a bit colored. Still clear as hell though, and no where near as tubby as the Onkyo I have at home.

I like my Grados for this. I have SR225s and SR80s. You'll pay for the RS series Grados, but they are superb headphones as well. Only asterisk is from about the 225s on up, you'll hear it if you're plugging into a so-so headphone amp.

I went ahead and ordered a set of 225's myself. If Dirty likes 'em, I'm confident that they smoke. Not that I really use phones much... But I've been getting a lot more restoration work in lately... And I'm about to have the entire catalog of one of those crazy 80's-90's guitar gods in soon... A lot of tape. Some DAT's, and even a stack of vinyl one-off's. I'm assuming I'm going to be turning to phones a lot to zero in on clicks & pops a little more often than usual. So, they might as well sound good. Not that the 7506's aren't "happy" enough for that, but... But... Well, I dunno. It'll be nice to give something else a shot.

Just plugged in the 225's... Sounded really nice. Switched over the the 7506's to compare... The 7506's will be on e-bay in a half-hour. Kidding (about e-bay - but if anyone's interested, the 7506's are mint!). It's not even a fair fight. The Grados slay the 7506's with extreme prejudice. The imaging is so much more detailed... The sense of air and space is more than impressive. Snare drums are much more poppy and realistic (a problem the 7506's always suffered IMO/E) and you can hear much more of the wood (or brass, if that's the case) in the shell. Very "3D" although I know that's an overused term. Whoops - No time for a review... Gotta run. Anyway, a bargain from the first impression.

I've never tried the 225s - but I own both the 7506s and Beyer Dynamic DT770s - which I much prefer - anyone A/B'd the 225s and the 770s?

Just reading now that the Grados are open - the 770s are closed - so not necessarily a fair comparison for strict listening but I remain very curious.
