I have been forced to master all of my projects so far becase my clinets cant afford it I dont profess to be a mastering engineer but using t rax, waves L2, and ozone, mostly pre sets I get a decent job, definatly improves it and gets the level up. I am looking to get some individual plug ins and want to know what some of your favorites are. I have a UAD card and have considered their precission plug ins just wanted to know some of your favorites

I've gotten decent results with the PSP Master Pack stuff. Also like the Sonalksis SV-517 Mastering EQ as well as Sony's Wave Hammer. Never tried the UAD stuff but I'm considering the purchase one of these days.

I'm not a big plug user, but the UAD stuff - specifically, the Precision EQ, the Precision Limiter (just for nipping) and the LA2A (for parallel work) are priceless.

John do you use the uad la2a like a lot of people use the waves L2a to get more volume out of the mix

Not normally... I use it for parallel processing a lot - Especially on the mono signal.

I'm still waiting for UAD to come out with a decent buss compressor - I though they were going to, then they put out the Precision Maul-The-Band... Slap

anything from WAVES is pretty good. The L2 maximizer, and some of the renesance series plugs are good.

Izotopes Ozone is a another good all-in-one package. i really like thier dithers in that one, and the EQ section has a nice "matching" copy....in which you can load a favorite song of yours that your trying to somewhat copy or sound like, and this plug in will read the sonics and EQ sound of that song, and set your EQ acordingly for you...to sound like that song your trying to sound like.

my favourite is a mix b/t analogue and digital, enjoy both worlds Waytogo

depands on the budget though

for digital stuff i think the tc powercore with the system 6000 algorithim for Multi Band dynamics is the finest.
though the UAD1 and waves both make amazing plugs.....

The only thing I feel qualified to do is run the mix trough an L2 plug to kick it up a few db's and fades.

I swear by my plug-ins, and my goto plugs are the BBE Sonic Maximizer, and Native Instruments Guitar Rig 2. I usually just have guitarists plug straight into my Tascam fw1884, and let em rip. NI GR2 has so many sweet tones and options, I've pretty much done away with most of my amps and rack effects except for a Johnson Millenium 2x12 combo and a J-station. GR2 makes it so much easier to get good tones quickly and it absolutely rules for punch ins.

The biggest issue I have really is that I have TOO MANY plug-ins to choose from, so it's hard sometimes to select the right one for the job. I lose some time in the expermentation process, but hey that's also part of the fun. Wink

Hello John, do you mean this as using the LA2A on the mono signal in a M/S Matrix?

Parallel as in "in addition to" the stereo signal. Not actually broken into M/S.

When it comes to plugs VOXENGO is hard to beat.
The GUI has a pretty steep learning curve but past that its truly amazing software. Check out Soniformer2 the most advanced Compressor ive seen Smile , and of course the Elephant limiter!
