Hey John, I was at the music store down here in S. IL and I noticed a used Pooch Carver CD, Pooch for President. The reason I took a look at it was because a funny incident happened to me at the Tower in Schaumburg about that band.

Anyway, I noticed your name all over it. Did you mix and master that one? Obbviously it was back in the day, but how did it turn out?

Also, whats that band like? I really want to check it out, I'm into groove metal, like Crowbar, Down, etc... I noticed it said "Psychadelic Groove Death" Does it really groove?

Thanks man.

"Pooch Carver, they opened for Anal Cunt..."

Thats what some dude yelled in the store. I thought it was funny, and the band name always stuck.

Those guys were a bit of a riot -

That was "back in the day" a little - If I'm not mistaken, I have Producer, Recording, Mixing and Mastering credits on 3 of their releases. So yes, guilty as charged on the mastering-my-own-mixes thing. That's before I really "lived" the concept. I went through the motions, and it usually worked out "okay," but even then, I had Jason in the room during the final pass.

Their first disc (Psychedellic Death Groove) was a bit raw - They had literally ZERO studio experience, but the performances were captured reasonably well.

The PFP CD actually came out pretty good... It was a rush when they came in - They were so "seasoned" from the first CD. Smarter too - They left all their amps at home, and just let us (Jason Walsh assisted) do what we thought was best. That disc actually has a really cool sound to it. It's certainly not "big-time-pro" sounding, but considering the source (I think only two of them were out of high-school on that run), it was pretty spiffy. Very polished for that genre. Big-ass guitar sounds, edge-distorted (like an SVT with too much gain) bass, some pretty strange instruments here and there.

We had the singer lying face-down on the floor for some takes, ran the vocals and the bass through a Sans-Amp, brought in a "kiddy" drum kit for a couple tracks... It was a blast. They got their inspiration from the strangest things... They had a song called "Caution: Lamb Ears Contain Toothpicks" that was named after a birthday cake (The Lamb on the cake had toothpicks in the ears to keep the cover from resting on the frosting). Other inspirations (such as Larry Sees Dwarves) were a little more mundane.

So, how much is it going for on the "used" market?

Going for about $5.99 these days.

Thanks for the response, I'm gonna have to pick that up sometime, hopefully it's still there. Unfortunately I can't even spring the $5.99 right now.
