I was given a screenshot of a professionally mastered metal track and then one of a track a friend of mine is working with. Now, his isn't "pro" mastered or even really mastered, just pseudo at this point but my question is this:

Below the "pan" header in the shots, theres another meter. The pro meter (eg2) is relatively not as active as the meter in the other shot (eg1).. What exactly does this represent and what is one looking for in this section?

Pan energy (for lack of a better term). A perfect (mono) sine will show nothing on that meter.

Well that makes sense, b/c when I collapse my friends track to mono, the guitars almost totally disappear. thx John.

You can also use the phase scope meter from your metering tools ruler
