I recently recorded a rapper who provided me with a 2 trk wav of his beats and proceeded to do his thing over them. I'm done recording his vocals and want to set him up with a few roughs with psuedo mastering.

What I've done is assigned all the vocals to Stereo out 1 and the beats to Stereo out 2 - reason being that the beats have already had a load of mastering applied to them and are hella flat topped, so I'd rather not apply any further compression and limiting to them.

Now, when I go to export (I use Nuendo) I only have the option to select one of the stereo outs, so my question is: what to people usually do, when working with 2 or more stems, if they don't have ext summing? Can it be done ITB?

No hard rules there -

I hear you though - The freakin' "producers" are always limiting the hell out of their "beats" before letting anyone put some vocals on them. They almost never supply a non-limited stereo track at "normal" levels...

Sorry - Ranting... Just P's me off though...

And I shouldn't make it seem like they're *all* doing it... But the rookies don't seem to understand anything about gain at all...

And people wonder why I don't have any hip-hop samples on my site... As soon as I get some in that sound decent, I'll be all over it. Eeks

Thanks John - and even after this brief encounter, I can appreciate your frsutration Wink

Anyways, what do I do? As I noted, I can only export one Stereo out at a time for a "mix" so what should I do, bounce both busses, bring them in again and mix to 2 buss from there Confused

Just wondered what other peeps do?

I almost don't understand -

Can you run them both to groups and just sum from there?

I'm a little slow I guess. What I was doing was applying my mastering FX on the inserts, @ the Stereo 1, 2 buss out..I guess you're right..I could simply assign all my vocal tracks to one group, aplly FX there and then route to the 2 buss with nothing added at this stage. Then do the same for the beats on another grp, sans FX.

Makes sense. Sometimes the obvious escapes me and I should think outside of the box a little more Red Face

thx John.
