I've been playing around with different ideas for producing my red book cds. Currently I've been using Roxio Creator or my Alesis Masterlink for making the master cd. I'm still a little unclear as to whether the Red Book has to have ISRC codes embedded on on it. The Masterlink is unable to do that, but I'm not sure I'm crazy about the sound I get from Roxio. Does the master always need to have these codes embedded on it or is it good enough that I use the cd text on the Masterlink? What better software would everybody suggest for PC with Nuendo?
Thanks,
Mike

It depends on whether or not the artist provides you with ISRC codes.. You can add them in a Wavelab audio montage, Gear Pro and many other apps.

I give this to most of my clients as we start a project to get them spun up on how the process works. Usually Mastering Houses ask for the ISRC code when you send them the data (assuming it will be mass produced) but it is easy to do and cheap. $10 to $15 dollars to get a code that is in your name for the life of it. The process takes about 5 days too. Some Mastering places even take care of it for you and add it to the cost.

great post IntelDoc.

Its slightly different for anyone in the UK, its free, but it takes around 3 weeks to get your code from the PPL-UK

I have registered and am able to assign ISRC codes to recordings, my main thing is getting these on the master and do I need to have them embedded or do I just need to catalog them. I'm thinking of getting CD architect. Can I embed codes with it? I'm just having a ton of issues with Roxio's sound. Also I want to make sure the cds I'm putting out are recognizable.

You do actually need to encode them to disk. Never used CD Architect myself but apparently you can insert ISRC's with it..

Cool. I may try CD Architect. Any other suggested programs to look at?

Well ive only really used Gear Pro and Wavelab.
Gear Pro does the job fine if you only need it for buring or creating DDP files, but there are no editing features and i think there is a few design flaws. Wavelab is excellent, it has all the features you need for mastering, other than the plug-ins themselves that is...

I've actually been looking over Wavelab as well and it seems to have a lot of features. Since I'm using Nuendo it might be a nice reasonable transition.
