I'm about to have my next CD mastered. I intend to attend the mastering session. I noticed Bob Katz is only about 100 miles from me, which would be real convenient. He has a great reputation, but most of his credits are jazz, classical, Americana, folk, etc. My stuff is definitely rock (has been compared as somewhere between the Ramones and Elvis Costello). My question: Does anyone have any experience with using Bob for mastering a rock CD? I'm not looking for a Green Day supercompressed sound, but more an early Beatles sound, lots of energy but still good definition and no ear fatique. Thanks!

I'd trust Bob with essentially *any* genre.

If it helps, I know he has at least one death-metal credit... Can't remember the band - Great sounding recording from what I hear.

He has quite a lot of progressive metal and rock credits because he masters most of the laser's edge's releases.

So there, you'll most likely be happy with him mastering your record.

Thanks for the replies. Mr. Katz is presently reviewing my mixes for readiness. If OK, he will be mastering them Nov. 1.
