There's been a lot of discussion about how well various CD burners perform, I was just wondering about DVD burners,
Do they burn CD masters better, worse or the same as CD burners? If you have tried a few, which are the best ones? Any other comments or advice you may have on the topic. Thanks. _____________________________________________ "Human beings, almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so." -Douglas Adams, Last Chance to See |

At risk of sounding like a Plextor salesman, I've had very crappy results with several DVD writers. Except my Plextor (PX712A).
THAT BEING SAID - I have a new Phillips unit that I have NOT checked yet. Now on the Plextor side, I'm "reasonably certain" that PlexTools Professional works with the PX712A... To me, that's worth more than the drive itself. As far as the physics of the drives and if DVD drives work "differently" in any way, I have to admit that I have no frickin' clue. I have a tendency to use only my CD drives to burn CDs if for no other reason that they're less expensive to replace frequently (as soon as I see a tick up in the average BLER rates, the drive goes bye-bye). So basically, the "gear and monitors" analogy applies - (The greatest gear in the world doesn't mean beans if you don't have monitoring that can reproduce it accurately.) On the burning side, if you have an accurate way to tell if your discs are coming out properly with low BLER numbers (such as PlexTools Professional), the drive the disc is written on is less important. |
