Im running a PC based DAW, and at not so high levels of volume I hear noise(dont know if its pink, white, black, etc). But with nothing playing and I turn up volume on a Behringer U802 going to active monitor system KRK, I hear it more. Is this noise from the monitor or PC?

HOW do I get rid of it? Is there an acceptable level and I am worried about nothing? Thanks if you know.

You're going to have to do some troubleshooting on that one... If your system isn't calibrated properly, it's going to be much more difficult also.

The 802 isn't exactly a "quiet" mixer... But it shouldn't be giving you an awful lot of noise (unless again, the monitoring system is out of calibration). But the easy way to find out whether it's coming from the PC is to just unplug the inputs from the PC. Still there? Turn the mixer down completely. Still there? Unplug the mixer. STILL there? Recalibrate the whole system.

John,

You hit the nail on the head. I did exactly what you said before reading your post, cause I happen to be a EE and knew that it came down to exactly that. My problem was that i did not suspect my "ultra-low noise" 502. I was mistaken when I said 802. So it was the 502. But now I need to get something that's actually quite to get a phone mix/monitor mix dial.

thanks

I use and recommend the Mackie Big Knob. It's a versatile control surface, and is extremely transparent, with no noticeable noise floor. It's all analog I/O, however. No digital I/O. They're around $300. It suits my needs. Hope this helps.
