Does anyone have any suggestions for a really good mastering job for a rock album? Someone with a pretty good track record and decent prices for indie bands?
Right now we're looking into Richard Dodd and Ted Jensen (probably not affordable). sincerely, nathan peterson |

Nathan,
I am friends with Richard and have also had several records done by Ted Jensen. Richard tends to be more agressive. Ted is expensive and I think of him as being slicker. I use Jim Demain at Yes Master in Nashville for all of my mastering for the last few years and have been very happy with him. His rates are great and I can hear really well in his studio and always am confident with what I am hearing. |

i had a client go to vision sound in Jacksonville, Fla... I thought they did a great job for the money. They advertise a rate of $60 per song, or $400 for a full length. They did a great job for the price, and i will probably be using them on all budget projects in the future. I think their site is http://www.visionsounds.com

JMP - what would you say the difference will be between Dodd and Jim?

Nathan,
I don't know if you are watching this thread still but Richard is naturally going to be more agressive than Jim. I generally don't take a record to mastering if I feel like it NEEDS agressive mastering. I work on it more myself first I don't think you could make a mistake going with either. I have just grown very comfortable with the Listening environment at Jim's place and he has a great feel for knowing what I am going for. jmp |
