Is it possible to find out where a CD was manufactured at all?
I've been putting a few through PlexTools error checker & there's a massive difference between discs. It may make selection of a reliable manufacturer easier. |

Most have some sort of batch / serial number on the ring somewhere -
I'm pretty much stuck on Tayio Yuden - But even those have their bad apples - I pretty much write off the top and bottom dozen or so on a spindle. |

Oops, sorry John. I shoulda made my question clearer.
I meant; is it possible to know where an already pressed CD was manufactured. I've put a few from artists such as Black Crowes, Iron Maiden etc into Plextools just out of curiosity & noticed a massive discrepancy in the BLER reports. By far the best was the Black Crowes Live Disc 1 which could actually be used as a Red Book disc. Most of the others were ok(ish) but some were awful. All the CDs are in very good condition. |

Interesting quest ... just grabbed a TDK blank CD from the table and seen two codes, the first is easily recognisable but useless. The second is al ittle hard to find, but provided the producer info as requested.
At first, there's a stamp on the inner transparent ring, can be easily read looking at CD from upside: this code is USELESS, it seems too generic in this particular case. But if you turn the CD and point a light on it, you'll see a code just inside the area that provides the datacloud, I mean between the transparent ring and the digitally registered data. The TDK one gives RWD744 ... after a search I realised it is produced by Plasmon DataSystems, Ltd. from Scotland, UK. Check the .cz site with a list of these codes Not that you got producer, not where the disc comes from. Same search with a low priced CD didn't gave any result. |
