Your profile says that you'e looking for that perfect tone. I doubt you'll find it with the Finalizer.

I used 1 at work for a few years & it was the worst piece of kit I've ever had the displeasure of using!

Ok, I'm exaggerating a bit but I wanted to emphasize my point, lol.

I on occasion,use it to live-in up a raw-un-eq,ed,tracks.
I have found out though,it takes alot of parameter settings to get what you need out of it.

I'll admit - When I got a Finalizer, I really was hoping that it was "da bomb" that it was marketed as. I actually found it a little confusing from the start - Multiband compression as a norm? What are these guys thinking?!?

But that seemed to be the start of this whole love affair with MBC...

But yeah, it did come in handy for a thing or two here and there. Like any other tool, it's only as dangerous as the person using it.

Finalizers don't kill mixes. People do.

WEll put John,Its not the "fix all" that I first thought it was.
I have learned tthru hrs and hrs of knob dicking, that some of the ram presets are great for drums, really brings them alive without having to spend hrs eq'ing.

I had one a few years back. I realized that I wouldn't achieve Mastering house results with it but I did get decent results with it. I didn't use it for mastering much. I would run demo mixes through it and I even tracked with it. Another engineer rented it from me and he ended up using gear he already had in his room. He couldn't get what he needed out of the box.

How about the (much) higher end Drawmer unit? Similar stories, or is the Drawmer miles above the TC?

I think you're going to get similar thoughts on almost any "all in one" box... Some are better at some things than others, all can do a decent job on many things if care is taken with it, yada, yada.

DBX's "Quantum" is another one... Actually, If I had to use one of them, it'd probably be the Quantum. I've only used them a few times, but I remember... "Less fighting" with it (?) to get what I was looking for.

Hey John,

I should have done a little search before I started my 96K post.

Anyway you mention the Quantum, what sort of mastering projects (music) did you use it on?

Also I left a question on my thread for you.

Sorry about the redundant thread.

Funny you should mention it - Just picked up a Quantum II a week ago or so... Same thing though - I only use it on what needs it. Specifically, it has a M/S EQ on it that I'm sure will come in handy here and there.

I had an Tc Finalizer Wizard Serie and I was using it for live set. Mainly using it to add some punch and get a good multiband limiter.

I think I will buy it agains... I did not find a replacement yet!

Do you have an idea about any equivalent to Tc Finalizer?

In pure sound quality, I have to say the DBX Quantum II kicks it's a$$. That said, I don't often use the QII for much. Still, the QII, Drawmer's unit - I just wasn't a fan of the Finalizer...
