Hello All, Jason and John,

My first post here.

Jason - I recorded/co-produced/mixed (and a handful of years ago remastered) Beyond These Shores, so I think (in fact I know) you have excellent taste.

Joking apart, I'm proud to have been involved with that record and I still think it sounds pretty good in spite of (or maybe because of) the fact it was recorded in the early 90s. It went down to 2" 24track 30ips Dolby SR through a Raindirk Symphony console, mixed either to DAT or one of those Akai 2-track optical cartridge thingies (can't remember the model number/name), mixes were all 16 bit.

The original mastering was to have been by the redoubtable Denis Blackham (now of Skye Mastering), but we overshot the cut date and ended up using the mastering arm of a manufacturing company where the engineer really just did a transfer rather than rolling up his sleeves to get the last 5% out of it. I therefore always knew we hadn't maximised the album's potential on first release, and was pleased to be offered the opportunity to remaster their first few albums for re-release and a box set.

Iona in their day were a world-class outfit IMO, and the members are still a force to be reckoned with - those wishing to find out more about the band should go to www.iona.uk.com.

Ive usually use Sting - Sacred Love. The whole album has a wide frequency range and some nice changes in dynamics.
