I need good ears to hear this. Mine are old.

This is my first try at playing, recording and mixing using a computer program so I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Jeff the guitars sounds wonderful-!! The tracks are very clean pan is great on the guitar harmony. I would move the string pad track back in the mix a little. It tends to overpower your nice guitar melody. I enjoyed the arrangement and listened a couple of times. If I had anything to pick on it would be the drum track. The drum rolls and such sound computer generated.

Doesn't sound beginner to me. The play along tracks are very nice-!! What for guitar and effects did you use?

Thanks for listening 2db,

And thanks for the complements. I see what you mean about the strings, I'll pulled them back.

I can't do anything with the drums because I don't have a drummer and I'm not good at drum programing so they'll have to do for now.

I'm using the strat guitar that you see in my picture above and I'm running it through a Line6 PODxt straight into the computer. I've never had good luck when I mic the guitar.

Thanks again,
Jeff

Actually I don't have much of a backgroung Jim. I played in a fiew local groups and stopped playing in 1986 because I started a new digital arts business and it soaked up all of my time.

In early 2005 I pick up the guitar and started playing again. I was amazed at all of the new types of equiptment out there like the PODxt and computer recording programs. In my day we only had 4 track caset recorders to write music with and you couldn't get much of a sound out of them.

Thanks for asking,
Jeff

The bass is panned to the left...that's a bit odd. But, overall, it sounds good to me.

Hi Jeff,

This track sound really good but i have agree about the bass not being center. For me it gives me a unbalance feeling but that is just me. Over all it sound excellent! Waytogo

A honest opinion?

What a wonderful song!
Did you think to put lyrics or you wanted the song without words? Just wondering.

A kind of Ritenour/Santana/Lukather style.
Nice guitar and instruments.

Ciao!

This is a great song. The musicianship skill level is high, and the tune well crafted. On first listen, the keys swell to a point where they muffle the lead guitar line.
Secondly, I do like the bass permeating the song, so that means center panning - makes it groove better in my opinion.
Some minor tweaks and you have a true winner.

Thanks for listening robemmet,

Centering the bass and bringing the strings back is obviously the two main things that I have to do. It's been mentioned a number of times above.

Originally I though that I should send it left a bit so that it would not set right on top of the lead guitar. What would be your suggestion of the guitar's panning?

Thanks,
Jeff

Well usually bass, snare and kick are close to middle, and so is the lead instrument. But u can pan lead instruments @ 10 and 2 oclock positions too.
We usually percieve bass as something that pervades a song, along with the kick; more a non directional thing. So most of us are comfortable with the 'feel' of it in the middle.
Nice job with composing, and you are a terrific player.

Hi Jeff, lots of good stuff in here. The one thing that sticks out to me like a sore thumb is the bass sound. It sounds like something right out the mid 80's when bass samples started appearing. Sounds like the stock bass sample for the Akai samplers. For one thing, it's got way too much attack. If you could find a patch that would sound more "rounder" I think it would give the overall mix and song a better sound.

Other than that, there's some great playing and composition on this. Keep it up!

Thanks for listening Dan,

I do intend to eventually use a real base guitar. Also some have suggested above that I should pan the base to center to balance the mix better. Thanks for the comps.
