M-Friend is having a sale on low cost mics. Perfect for mods - maybe. Just in case: Musician's Friend-Adam

Use a small screwdriver and real good, firm pressure. If you strip the head of the screw, you can get it out with pliers. The screws to replace it would be one of the 2 smallest sizes Mouser or Digikey sells.

Just curious if anyone else has tried using a Cinemag 2461 in a Nady 1050?? It took a bit of doing but it does "fit" in the mic! It really sounds great as well. (it's the orange thing)...built a little "can" for it out of Mu Metal, wrapped it in a layer of electrical tape so it wouldn't touch anything on the board. I've changed a few other parts on the mic since the photo relcaps for C3 and C5, got to get rid of that last electrolytic.

I'm also putting a Cinemag 2461 in a 1050, but I'm also putting in an EF14 as well. Now that's making it real tight!

I can't find those "EF" type tubes in any store. Any hints? Edit: Nevermind, just found them by searching 6267 :P

I just took a pair of pliers and bent the two frame pieces, especially since I'm not using the pc board anymore (had to make room for the EF14 and socket).

Michael, I'd love to see some pics of how you hooked up that mic?
Also, I just got a BV314 transformer from Funkenwerk. Can't really get it to fit in a 1050...yet. I'm just curious if any of you all have ever checked it out yet.

.....put in the BV314 and it sounds really nice. Then I removed the cathode follower and it really has nice much more 'tubey' sort of vibe! BV314 was pricey but it sounds great!!

So how much was the BV314?

Expensive!! $180....but it's nice. It it's about 2-3db louder than 2480. It's hard to describe but it sound a quite a bit different than the 2480, sort of bigger, it's hard to describe.
It won't fit in the 1050 at least that I can figure out. But it actually will fit in the 460 with no extra dremmeling...it's a tight squeeze though.

hi all,
Just been talking to a couple of friends about the C8 cap in the 1050 circuit.
Both are designers of tube gear of somewhat note and they suggested trying a lower value cap there. If you put a higher ratio transformer there you can actually get away with it without effecting the losing any of the low end in a desirable range. The lower value cap will change where the cutoff is but as I understand it the 1.5uf cap combined with the cinemag transformer has it in a very low frequncy to begin with. There is a calculation that will calculate the frequency cut off, just wondering if anyone knows what that is??
The lower value cap will effect where phase shift is in the circuit which will of course effect the sound as well...well only way to find out how it sounds is to try it, so I'm going to order a .56uf Auricap and give it a try.....
Any other thoughts or experiences on this would be appreciated...

I don't think I'd like the lower value C8 in mine, but I'd love to hear how yours sounds with it. Could you post some files of you speaking into it about a foot away?

...when I get the caps I'll be able to do an A/B comparison. I've got 2 identical 1050's(Cinemag 2461/Peluso 367, identical resistors) One's got a 1.2uf in C8, I'll switch the other one out to the .56uf and record some vocals with it.

Thought I'd bring this one up again and ask another question.
For C8, since a 250V cap is fine, does that mean that 250V caps for C1 and C2 are okay too? I'm trying to fit in a couple films in those positions too to eliminate all the lytics.
